This guy does a nice job of explaining his thought processes when composing a photo quickly.

He uses the acronym DOF a couple of times. DOF stands for Depth of Field which, according to Wikipedia, is “the distance between the nearest and farthest objects in a scene that appear acceptably sharp in an image.”
